Sudan’s Al-Jazirah Region:
The Latest Flashpoint in a Growing Crisis
A humanitarian disaster is unfolding in Sudan’s Al-Jazirah region. Recent violent outbreaks have shattered communities, leaving devastation in their wake. Close to 200 civilians have lost their lives or suffered injuries. More than 47,000 individuals have been forced to abandon their homes across numerous villages. Disturbing accounts of sexual violence have surfaced. Additional villages stand on the brink of impending attacks.
On-the-ground activists report widespread unrest, with families abandoning their homes in terror. The conflict persists unabated. More communities face the threat of violence, risking further deterioration of an already critical situation.
The Wider Sudan Emergency
This regional crisis is a microcosm of the larger, catastrophic conflict engulfing Sudan. A staggering 14 million people have been uprooted nationwide. Of these, 11 million are displaced within Sudan’s borders. An additional 3.1 million have sought refuge in neighboring nations. Nearly a third of Sudan’s population is in flux, desperately seeking safety.nThe humanitarian landscape is bleak. Half of the country’s inhabitants require immediate aid. One out of every two Sudanese struggles to secure even basic nutrition. An alarming 70% of medical facilities have ceased operations. It’s projected that 4 million children under five will face severe malnutrition this year. The education system has collapsed. Over 90% of school-aged children have no access to formal learning. A whole generation’s future hangs by a thread.
Sadagaat-Canada’s Action Plan
We’re ramping up efforts to aid civilians caught in this turmoil. Our teams are working around the clock to evacuate people from high-risk areas. We’re mobilizing support for displaced families. We’re providing relief and safeguarding those most impacted by this crisis.
Our emergency response initiative is in full force. We’re joining hands with Canadian organizations and local partners. Together, we’re supplying food and safe drinking water to those in dire need. We’re distributing essential medicines and medical equipment to combat disease outbreaks. We’re offering shelter and protection to the most vulnerable.
The Call for Global Support
The global community’s response has been inadequate. The UN’s Humanitarian Response Plan, requiring $2.7 billion, is merely 6% funded. This deficit puts millions at risk of further hardship.

CENTRAL KITCHENS
Sadagaat Runs 112 Central Kitchens
Since April 2023, conflict in Sudan has displaced over 8 million people, with 2 million seeking refuge in neighboring countries. Nearly 16,000 lives have been lost.
To address this urgent need, Sadagaat Canada has established an impressive network of central kitchens across multiple states and cities in Sudan. These kitchens are working tirelessly to prepare and distribute nutritious meals to the displaced and those facing extreme food insecurity. Each meal provided through our central kitchens represents a beacon of hope and an act of unity, reinforcing the importance of community support during these challenging times.
The crisis is severe: 18 million people, including 14 million children, face extreme food insecurity. Over 70% of hospitals are non-functional, spreading infectious diseases. Nearly 4 million children under five may suffer acute malnutrition this year, and over 90% of school-age children can’t access education.
Despite these dire circumstances, the international response is insufficient, with only six percent of the $2.7 billion Humanitarian Response Plan funded. A recent donor conference in Paris called for more support.
In addition to our central kitchens, Sadagaat Canada is partnering with organizations to provide critical medication, medical supplies, and clean water. Your support can make a significant difference in continuing these vital efforts.
Please donate today to help us sustain our central kitchens and other essential aid programs. Together, we can ensure that no one is left without the necessities of life.
