El Fasher Emergency:
Help Families Survive

The conflict in Al-Fashir, North Darfur, and Barah, North Kordofan, escalated on October 25, 2025.

This has caused a severe humanitarian crisis, with thousands killed, wounded, and displaced. Armed clashes destroyed infrastructure, separated families, and cut off access to basic services. This left civilians, particularly women, children, and the elderly, without food, water, or shelter.

Many displaced families have arrived in Tawila, around 80 km west of El Fasher. Local authorities estimate about 20,000 new arrivals, many reaching safety after days without food. They are exhausted, hungry, and shaken.

According to the UN migration agency (IOM), over 82,000 families have fled El Fasher and surrounding areas in a matter of days, seeking safety wherever they can find it.

Our Central Kitchens in Tawila are a lifeline for families at breaking point.

Your help this Ramadan ensures the kitchens continue running for families in need. And trust that Allah will multiply your reward, 10 times and more, for feeding those in hunger.

Sadagaat's Emergency
Response  in Tawila

In Tawila, approximately 80 km west of Al Fasher, local authorities estimate around 20,000 additional people have arrived. Many individuals sought refuge in these areas, arriving hungry, exhausted, and traumatized after days without food. Others have taken a longer trip to Al Dabbah. The journey to Al-Dabbah, over 1,200 km away, was difficult and dangerous.

Many new arrivals faced dire conditions in overcrowded camps that lacked sufficient resources. From Barah, people have fled to El Obeid, approximately 40 km west, and Omdurman, Khartoum, approximately 350 km northeast.

The estimated displaced population in El Obeid is around 20,000, all of whom are in immediate need of food.

OUR CRISIS PROJECTS

Rapid Response to Conflict Zones

When conflict hits areas like Al-Fashir, Sadagaat Canada moves fast. The focus is on getting life-saving resources to people who are trapped or newly displaced. Teams deploy Central Kitchens, emergency water operations, and NFI kits (Non-food items) directly into crisis zones like Abu-Shouk Camp in El-Fasher, Tawila, Alobied, and Al Dabah. These aren’t stable situations where you can plan weeks in advance. People need food, water, and basic supplies immediately, or they don’t survive. The quick response prioritizes speed and direct delivery over everything else, stabilizing communities that are under stress from active fighting and sudden displacement.

Sudan’s winters hit harder when you’re living in a displacement camp or makeshift shelter with no insulation. Sadagaat Canada’s Winter’s Warmth Campaign is run to provide heavy blankets, warm clothing, heating fuel, and thermal mats to families who would otherwise freeze. The campaign runs during the coldest months, getting supplies out before temperatures drop too far. For displaced families who’ve already lost their homes and are living in vulnerable conditions, winter adds another layer of danger. These distributions prevent cold-related illness and death by giving people the resources they need to stay warm through the season.

Sudan faces severe flooding during the autumn season that destroys homes and contaminates water supplies*. Our Flood Response works on two fronts. First, immediate emergency aid after floods hit:  clean water, sanitation facilities, and shelter materials for families whose homes are underwater or washed away. Second, prevention work before the next flood season arrives. The program funds and supports community residents to build sand walls and protective barriers around vulnerable areas. Communities get the resources and technical guidance to protect themselves.
