Roughly half of Khartoum population (2.47 million), more than half of them children have been displaced internally by the conflict since 15 April and need humanitarian aid and protection, according to the OCHA Humanitarian Response Dashboard as of 11 June.
The majority of the IDPs moved to Gazira state and settled in gathering points in the different cities, particularly Wad Madani which has received the majority of the displaced, either hosted by their relatives, rented houses with tremendous prices, or settled in gathering points in university houses and schools. With limited capacity for meeting their livelihood needs, these IDPs are in a tragic humanitarian situation.
In collaboration with Sadgaat Organization in Sudan, Sadagat-Canada has sponsored a project to support the IDPs’ situation in the gathering points in Wad Madani by increasing access to clean drinking water, and proper sanitation, raising awareness of hygienic practices and decreasing the spread of diseases. Roughly 2,000 IDPs benefited from this project
The overall cost of implementing this project amounted to CAD 39,000. We extend our sincere gratitude to all our donors for their generous contributions and for supporting our vision to achieve a lasting impact in this challenging environment.#sadagaat #sadagaat-canada
